Teaching Methods
Playing golf is certainly more than chasing a little white ball
around for 18 holes. A properly struck golf shot is a delight to
the senses, sending a surge of pleasure through your body with pure
vibration, a sound echoing power, as the ball hisses through the
air, and as you see the ball soar in the intended direction, your
heart will soar too!
Douglas Tyler is the director of instruction at the
University of Idaho Golf Course. His teaching career started at the
Clarkston Golf and Country Club in 1997 at which time he was
enrolled as an apprentice in the PGA professional golf management
program. He became an elected member of the PGA in November of
2002. During this time Doug honed his teaching skills under the
tutelage of Tiger Woods' Golf coach, Hank Haney and
Master Professional, Dawes Marlatt.
In February of 2005 Doug was recognized in Golf Magazine as one of
the Top Instructors in the Pacific Northwest. In a relentless
pursuit to glean teaching concepts and techniques from teaching
legends, Doug studied with Jim Hardy, author of the best
selling golf instructional book, The Plane Truth for
Golfers. In January of 2007, Douglas reached another
professional milestone, and received his Certification in Teaching
from the PGA.
During this time Doug has literally given thousand of golf lessons
at all skill levels and ages from beginning students to elite
college players. Some students have been younger than seven and
older than seventy. Doug has expanded his dedication to teaching by
mentoring up and coming golf instructors through the Professional
Golf Management Program offered at the University of Idaho.
